Mentors
If you have read through the site
you may have come across reference to our Mentoring Scheme and wondered
what on earth this means. Well, as part of our commitment to producing
great new writing by Scots and about Scotland, we actively encourage
new authors. Sometimes these authors have great stories to tell but
lack the skills to get these across in a manner that would allow us
to publish their work. In certain circumstances we are prepared to put
such people in touch with a Mentor to help them to develop their work.
To do this we need published authors,
journalists, editors and teachers who can help. The way the scheme works
is that we keep your details on file and if we find an author whom we
think will benefit from your help, we will put you in touch with each
other. Normally we will arrange a meeting at which we will be represented,
but after that it's up to you. All fees and the nature of the work must
be agreed netween the Mentor and the Author. We do take an Administration
Fee from the author, but this scheme is free for Mentors to participate
in. Once the Author and Mentor have made contact we will not intervene
further, except that if, after an Author has gone through the Mentoring
Scheme, we decide to publish his or her revised work, we will place
a credit to the Mentor in the dedications page of the book.
Both parties must realise that
although PlashMill Press will look very favourably on works submitted
by authors who have passed through the Mentoring Scheme, this does not
guarantee publication nor does it waive any of our Standard Fees.
Notwithstanding this caveat, the
Mentoring Scheme represents a way for people with established writing
skills to earn some income in their spare time and also to help younger,
less experienced writers to develop their skills.
If you think being a Mentor is
for you, please click HERE
or use the email link above to get in touch and we will contact you
directly by email, telephone or land mail according to your preferences.
We will ask a few questions about your background and training so that
we can be sure that your skills reasonably match the needs of candidate
Authors. All your details will of course be kept confidential.
